Williamsburg, VA July 14, 2004. The National Institutes of Health, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, has purchased a multi-client license of VIBE from INCOGEN for use in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) Research Technologies Branch.
The Research Technologies Branch offers investigators specialized support for
advanced biotechnology research. The Branch provides access to state-of-the-art
research technologies, scientific expertise, and technical support to enhance
the research efforts of all NIAID intramural investigators. The NIAID bought the
VIBE licenses to facilitate better collaborations between statisticians and data
analysts and biologists by providing an environment for co-development of
analysis pipelines.
“Having the NIAID Research Technologies Branch as a VIBE user underscores the
value of VIBE in helping bioinformatics professionals in their work of
supporting life science researchers,” said Maciek Sasinowski, PhD, founder and
CEO of INCOGEN. “VIBE is proving time and again that large gains in productivity
can be made in a very user-friendly way.” The company, founded by Dr. Sasinowski
in 1998, offers four software products for researchers in life science
informatics, as well as an extensive list of Professional Services.
In a recent seminar series the Director of Discovery at a major Pharmaceutical company said that VIBE:
Although bioinformatics professionals are accustomed to writing PERL scripts on
their own, VIBE allows them to deploy scripted analysis pipelines faster and
deliver a more user friendly product to the researcher. "The ratio of one
bioinformaticist supporting more than 100 people is really striking," says Don
Van Dyke, INCOGEN’s VP of Business Development. "That translates into greater
productivity and better support for end-users"
In addition to faster deployment, the VIBE Software Development Kit (SDK) allows
users to integrate third-party tools or custom software into VIBE. Van Dyke
concludes: "The fact the VIBE client and server are totally cross platform as
well as extensible has really gotten a lot of attention. This purchase by the
NIH is an example."
